Types of Dusting Tools

There are two main categories of dusting tools: “Detailing Dusters,” and “Broad Surface Dusters.”

DETAILING DUSTERS
Genuine Ostrich Feather Dusters are the tools for “Detail Dusting”
because the fingers and barbules of the feathers stretch and reach around trinkets and knick-knacks on desks, counters, bookshelves, etc.

Turkey or Rooster Feathers are tools for "Detail Dusting" and we sell them, but its our opinion they are less effective in picking up dust like ostrich feathers. The feathers and barbules are not as fine.

Imitation Feather Dusters (Swiffer) are tools for "Detail Dusting" and are made up from materials trying to imitate what a feather duster does. Our opinion is they are an inferior product, but here is a video for you to decide for yourself:

BROAD SURFACE DUSTERS

Wool Dusters, also known as “lambswool,” or “lambskin” dusters are Broad Surface tools, and have fine, crimped fibers that form an intricate network which, when combined with the natural lanolin and scale-like surface of the wool fiber, trap and hold dust until spun free. These dusters are perfect for cleaning broad surfaces like walls, ceilings, open desktops, filing cabinets, etc.

Synthetic Dusters, also known as “rainbow,” or “magic” dusters, are also Broad Surface dusters, and are less expensive than other categories of dusters, and differ in that they rely mostly on static electricity to attract dust particles when cleaning. Also perfect for cleaning broad surfaces like walls, ceilings, open desktops, filing cabinets, etc.

Microfiber Dusters are a newer technology, and are also used for Broad Surface dusting. This product utilize synthetic fibers less than one denier thick (which is a unit of measurement making the fibers thinner than even 1 strand of silk). The fibers have excellent wicking properties, which means the material will absorb liquids quickly and effectively without leaving behind lint or a residue on the cleaning surface. Also perfect for cleaning broad surfaces like walls, ceilings, open desktops, filing cabinets, etc.
